Shiva Manasa Pooja – Shiva, the lord of Supreme Hinduism, also known as Mahadeva, one of the major traditions of Hindu culture. He is the “destroyer” , the lord who transforms the universe and the global world. He is regarded as the energy and creative power (Shakti) and the equal complementary partner of Shiva. Shiva is one of the five equivalent deities of Panchayatana Puja of the Smarta tradition of Hinduism. He is benevolent as well as fearsome. Shiva is also known as Adiyogi Shiva, regarded as the patron god of Yoga, meditation and the arts.
Sri Shiva Manasa Pooja is the worship of internalised, with the beauty, fragrance and sweetness of the offerings created by the unlimited chantings and prayers of the devotees.
Shiva Manasa Pooja is a stotra, shloka or hymn of praise, dedicated to Lord Shiva and composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. The Siva (Shiva’s) Manasa (mental) Pooja (worship) is a prayer in praise of God to live with devotion and determination with a positive attitude.
Manasa Puja is worship of the Lord without any external materials. The entire puja is imagined in the mind, including all the materials necessary for worship, and one offers all of these to the Lord as in formal worship. This kind of worship is more effective and demands concentration and mental participation.
This puja calms your mind, and at the same time, engages the mind directly in the process of worship, creating a deeper and more powerful worship experience.
Manasa Puja incurs mental peace and purity for the people and devotees performing this puja. This puja is more than dhyana (contemplation) or mindfulness. This is a stotra that stables the mind and aims to proffer harmony and peace. This puja increases the sense of stability, concentration, focus, tranquillity, and self-absorption. Most importantly, it awakens the deity hidden in you and brings him into the centre of your life.
Manasapuja is easy to practise. One realises, visualises the steps and processes of divine worship and replicate them in your mind peacefully.

Everytime, you perform a pooja, some of the following are the steps which you may find useful:
- Sit in a comfortable and convenient place, and take a few deep breaths to relax your mind and body.
- Close your eyes slowly and enter a meditative state. The calmer you are, the easier it will be for you to practise visualisation.
- Mentally, recite a few mantras and prayers, or chant Aum, until your mind is stabilised.
- Visualise the deity of your choice and offer him a seat of gold inside your heart.
- Let the prayers and aura radiate the light as you can visualise his presence and soothing effect upon you.
- At the start, thank the deity for paying the visit and willing to be your guest for the duration of your humble worship.
- Slowly, start imagining the lord blessing you the wish and you may also seek advice, share your problems and challenges. Make sure you are slow and calm.
- After his visit, seek him prayers and express your gratitude for his visit.
